Good news for those wanting to see more of Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s space battles. EA has announced that it will be taking Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the road, featuring space battles at Gamescom later this month on August 21.
The game’s Starfighter Assault mode will make its debut in a new trailer as well as a live gameplay reveal. That live reveal will streamed on August 21 at 9:30 a.m. Pacific, where two teams will face off in a space battle from the original trilogy era. EA says the match will take place on the Fondor: Imperial Shipyard map, which features an Imperial Star Destroyer that ships will have to weave around while dogfighting.
While the space battles that were eventually added to the first Battlefront were lacking for many fans, it looks like EA and DICE are making Starfighter Assault a much richer experience in the sequel. Distinct hero ships are still in the mix, but EA also says that Battlefront 2‘s starfighter combat has been improved all around, including better controls, customization, and a new class-based system that will put members of each side in specific roles to help their team claim victory.
While Gamescom will offer a glimpse of Starfighter Assault and the Fondor: Imperial Shipyard map, EA promises that gamers will be able to go hands-on with both the mode and map in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta this October. In the beta, space battles will join the previously announced Theed Galactic Assault map.
It seems as though all the stops are being pulled out for Star Wars Battlefront 2, to hopefully deliver what passionate fans felt were lacking in 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront. All-out space battles was definitely one of those. As was a story campaign, which looks to be getting full attention and care from the development teams at EA.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases on November 17, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
