Monster Hunter XX Switch Demo is Region Free

As of yet, Capcom has not openly announced a US release for Monster Hunter XX on Nintendo Switch, as the forthcoming deluxe version of Monster Hunter Generations is currently only coming to the console in Japan later this month. Despite this, the video game publisher and developer has revealed that a demo for the title will be available through the system’s Japanese eShop on August 10, 2017.

Even though Monster Hunter XX won’t necessarily be released anywhere outside of Japan anytime soon, due to the fact that the Nintendo Switch is region free, fans of the franchise around the world will be able to try out the demo after setting up a Japanese account on the console’s eShop. Accessing different regional eShops isn’t incredibly difficult, but for those who need a run down on what’s necessary to make it happen, the Arekkz Gaming YouTube channel offers a good explanation on how to do so.

Of course, while there will certainly be plenty of Monster Hunter XX fans outside of Japan who will want to dive into the demo as soon as possible, it’s important to note that since a Western release hasn’t been confirmed, the trial likely won’t have English subtitles at all. With this being the case, it’s likely that only those who have an understanding of Japanese will be able to proficiently make their way through the demo.

Bearing all of this in mind, even if one is able to download the demo, it looks as if the vast majority of Monster Hunter XX fans outside of Japan won’t have the faculties to fully enjoy the demo without a lot of messy trial and error navigation of the text-heavy adventure. So, until Capcom officially reveals Monster Hunter XX for a worldwide release, a lot of fans living in countries other than Japan will have to remain content with watching online gameplay videos or the title’s reveal trailer while waiting for the announcement of a global launch date.

Monster Hunter XX is launching in Japan on August 25, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.
